Award for Excellence in Teaching


Dr. Jacqueline Gartner

The 2020 School of Engineering Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award recipient is Dr. Jacqueline Gartner. 

Gartner is an Assistant Professor of Engineering and teaches first-year engineering courses, as well as chemical engineering courses for second- and third-year students and general engineering courses like engineering economy. She is faculty advisor for our American Institute of Chemical Engineers Student Chapter and a a co-PI on our first NSF grant, entitled “CORE-ES: Campbell Opportunity to Retain and Engage Engineering Scholars,” funded by the SSTEM Program for $649,756 to provide engineering scholarships.

She also is a co-Principal Investigator for an NSF grant entitled “EDUC-ATE: Educating Diverse Undergraduate Communities – Affordable Transport Equipment” in conjunction with Washington State University for $224,711. 

Gartner has developed the chemical engineering class-lab facility, selecting and setting up the equipment. She has developed four new courses for the chemical engineering concentration. As part of her NSF grant, she is working with faculty around the country to introduce new hands-on experiments to thermal fluids courses. 

Gartner earned her B.A. degrees in Chemistry and Math-Economics from Anderson University, as well as her MBA. She received her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Washington State University.
