Dean’s Award | School of Business
Award for Excellence in Teaching

Dr. Pamela Strickland

Dr. Pamela Strickland is the recipient of the 2020 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching for the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business.

Since arriving, Strickland has been a significant contributor to our business school. Her contributions span the classroom, the accounting program, the local community, and the field of accounting. As a prior recipient of the North Carolina Association of CPA’s Educator of the Year, we were confident she would be a pivotal hire. Strickland has far exceeded these high expectations.

Strickland is a highly engaged faculty member possessing a keen interest in her subject area and, more importantly, in her students. She actively develops mentoring relationships beyond the classroom. She exhibits the crucial quality of outstanding faculty -she genuinely cares about her students. Our accounting students are fortunate to have  Strickland involved in their lives.

Strickland provides outstanding leadership within the business school. A natural leader, her collegial style fosters collaboration. She led our Masters of Accountancy [MAcc] program that offers the nation’s only MAcc curriculum leading to graduates sitting for both the CPA and CFP. The MAcc exists today due to the determination, creativity, and enthusiasm of Strickland.

Strickland’s work extends into her community. As a noted tax accountant, she leads our IRS’s VITA program to provide pro bono tax assistance to community members and international students. By involving her students, she provides them with practical experience while learning how to give back.

Strickland is very active within her accounting profession. The AICPA deems her a subject matter expert and reviewer for national CPA exam questions. The Journal of Forensic and Investigative Accounting invited her to join their Editorial Board. Dr. Strickland also maintains her research stream: one paper received journal publication acceptance, in addition to also making multiple accounting conference presentations. Strickland truly exemplifies the teacher-scholar model.

Dr. Pam Strickland is very deserving of the 2020 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
