Request Pregnancy & Parenting Supportive Measures
Pregnant Students
Supportive Measures for pregnancy and related conditions are designed to restore or preserve equal access to the education program or activity. Pregnancy and related conditions encompass the physical pregnancy, childbirth, false pregnancy, termination of pregnancy, lactation, and any medical conditions arising from or related to these events.
Parenting Students
The University recognizes non-pregnant parenting students (“parenting students”) may also need to attend pregnancy-related doctor appointments, be present for the birth of their child, or otherwise provide support for the pregnant parent during pregnancy, birth, or termination of pregnancy. Parenting students may also include those who are seeking adoption or guardianship. Parenting students may request Supportive Measures for the duration or circumstance related to the pregnancy and pregnancy-related conditions, and the duration of the adoption or guardianship proceedings.
Supportive Measures
Pregnancy and related conditions, and parenting student Supportive Measures include, but are not limited to, connection to resources and reasonable measures regarding:
- Wellness:
- Counseling Services (on-campus)
- Health Center (on-campus)
- Information about off-campus resources
- Academic Support:
- Excused absences
- Late work exceptions
- Course planning flexibility
- Rescheduling exams
- Withdrawal (course, semester, from the institution)
- Pause
- Incomplete
- Modifications:
- Additional breaks during class
- Keeping water or food nearby or in-class
- Classroom adjustments (ex. bigger desk, sitting and/or standing options)
- On-campus housing modification
- Access to lactation room(s)
Some wellness Supportive Measures may be in the form of providing contact information for on-campus or local resources.
