Go to www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/comparison_tool.asp to view the rates.
Full-time training for undergraduate students is normally 12 credit hours minimum at the main campus or 6 credit hours minimum each term under accelerated terms. Graduate students need to look at their bulletin/catalog to determine the full-time definition. A student who enrolls for less than full-time will have the amount he/she can receive in benefits prorated each month according to how many days of classes are in each individual month.
For additional information on financial aid, visit campbell.edu/financial-aid/ .
Be advised that failure to provide the School’s Veterans Affairs (VA) Office with all required forms and completing a schedule notification form in a timely manner may result in a delay of benefits. The sequence of events that will occur in relation to the use of your GI Bill® Benefits is as follows:
- After you submit your online application for VA benefits, you will receive an email from VA confirming that your application downloaded. Please forward the confirmation email to the Campbell University VA office.
- After your application has been submitted and processed by VA, you will receive a letter entitled “Certificate of Eligibility” (VA award letter). Please email or bring a copy to Campbell’s VA Office for your VA file. You can also set up an eBenefits account (Premium) to see all of your certifications, payments, and remaining entitlements.
Once You Are Certified:
- Included in your VA award letter will be information on verification of attendance. You will continue to receive benefits as long as you keep the certifying official notified of your schedule.
- For Post-9/11 (Chapter 33 students) the book allowance can come at any time during the month. The Housing Allowance payments are normally paid at the end of the month in arrears.
- Please be advised that most stipends and allowances are paid in arrears; meaning the first payment will usually arrive during month two. The last payment for a semester is usually disbursed a month after the semester has ended.
To Keep Your Benefits Running Smoothly:
- Read and familiarize yourself with the Policy and Procedures form.
- You MUST fill out a schedule notification form before we can certify you for each semester. Otherwise, you will not be certified. New students will receive schedule notification forms after initial schedule generation. Active students, the Schedule Notification Form will automatically be sent to you the following semesters.
- If for some reason you do not receive a link, please let our office know and we will send you an updated link.
- We also post grades and review Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) to ensure you can keep using VA benefits.
- Keep in mind that VA will only pay for courses that are required for graduation as defined by your curriculum and as published in the catalog/bulletin. VA will not pay for non-degree or additional courses.
- In the event you wish to change anything (schedule, major, course(s), address, etc.) or decide to pursue a Double Major or Minor, you must provide our office with advanced notice of your intentions and all pertinent approval forms, indicating the changes.
The rate of stipends and housing allowance is based on three factors:
1. Chapter of benefits being used.
2. Which campus are you attending.
3. Enrolled as full-time or part-time.
Please also note that stipend rates, occasionally will increase. If that occurs, it will take place in October.

Chapter 35 Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance
There are two things that can impact the payment of benefits. The first is prior to the start of a
new semester when the student’s schedule is finalized they need to complete a Schedule Notification Form. This ensures we are able to certify the courses which releases the funds
to the university and student.
The second is to ensure when the student receives the text notification verifying they are still
enrolled in school they respond. This can freeze funds until the student verifies enrollment. If
this happens you will need to contact the GI Bill® HOTLINE at
1-888-GIBILL-1.
This can be done thirty days prior to the start of the semester. In order to expedite the process
you will need to complete the Schedule Notification Form for that semester. However, it is very important to ensure your schedule is finalized prior to completing the form. If you have not received a Schedule notification form for an upcoming semester please contact Amanda McRae mcraea@campbell.edu.
You can see how much time is remaining on your education benefits by logging into your VA
account at va.gov. Once logged in, select the “Education & Training” tab and then then “Check your remaining benefits”. This will show your remaining time left.
We generally try to let students know if they are close to benefit exhaustion however it is ultimately the student’s responsibility to check and plan accordingly.
- Read and familiarize yourself with the Policy and Procedures form.
- You must complete a Schedule Notification Form for an upcoming semester. Otherwise, our office cannot certify you. We also post grades and review Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) to ensure you can keep using VA benefits.
- Keep in mind that VA will only pay for courses that are required for graduation as defined by your curriculum and as published in the catalog/bulletin. VA will not pay for non-degree or additional courses.
- In the event you wish to change anything (schedule, major, course(s), address, etc.) or decide to pursue a Double Major or Minor, you must give our office prior notice and all approving documentation, indicating the changes.
Beginning June 29, 2009, service members will go to https://www.va.gov/education/transfer-post-9-11-gi-bill-benefits to complete the application to transfer benefits.
When the web portal shows the APPROVAL of the transfer, the family member should complete the application (VA Form 22-1990E) on the VA website (https://www.va.gov/education/how-to-apply).
The Post 9/11 GI Bill® cap may increase on a yearly basis. Please utilize this link to stay up to date on the yearly cap.
A private school can receive the VA cap each year if the service member is approved at 100% for education benefits. To see the current VA cap or for more information on the Post 9/11 GI Bill® go to https://www.va.gov/education/about-gi-bill-benefits/post-9-11.
Your school and your program need to be approved. Check that on the VA website. By law, VA is authorized to pay GI Bill® benefits only for classes that are included as part of an approved program of education and count toward the completion of that approved program of education. Also, VA cannot pay benefits for a program if more than 85% of the students in that program are having any portion of the cost paid by the VA or the school. If a program’s enrollment exceeds the 85% limit, only currently enrolled GI Bill® students may continue to use their benefits for it.
Campbell does not require payment upfront for students using CH 33 at 100% or CH 31. However, if eligible at less than 100% or using a different chapter that pays a stipend directly to you will require payment or an approved payment plan before the start of classes.
Under most GI Bill® programs, you will generally get 36 months of full-time benefits (unless transferred less by your sponsor). If you are training full-time for 4 months you use 4 months of benefits. If you are training at 1/2 time for 4 months, you use 2 months of benefits.
If you change classes or training after the add/drop deadline, you may end up with a debt to VA. You will want to contact Campbell’s VA office to discuss this before making any changes.
One of the most important things we stress is active communication. If you want to drop a course, or switch majors, etc… please indicate that to our office prior to making the change. This is extremely important. Again, changes with our knowledge and approval can result in significant debts to VA.
