Lifeguard Training

Aquatics Update (3-22-23):
The Aquatic Center is open to Campbell University Faculty/Staff, Students, and those who subscribe for access on Monday – Friday 12:00pm – 2:00pm / 6:00pm – 8:30pm and Saturdays 12:00pm – 5:00pm.
Please keep a check on the Aquatics Center Event Calendar which is updated daily with any possible upcoming closures or events that may limit pool access such as Holidays, Swim Meets, etc.
Swim lesson registration is now open.  It will be monitored daily and closed periodically as classes fill, so please check back at a later time if you encounter any issues.  Register early to ensure your choice of sessions and class times.  Each time slot available for classes will be removed from the Registration Form options as they fill, and we will announce when all classes have been filled for the upcoming sessions.
Don’t forget summer is right around the corner and Keith Hill’s pool will be open for more fun in the sun.  Fingers crossed for May 1st!

If there are any general questions, pool access questions, you want to be on our lesson distribution list, and/or take a lifeguard class or Certified Pool Operator course, please feel free to get in touch.

Lifeguard Training / CPR Course

Lifeguard Training will be offered as an online blended format again this year.  As students complete the online classroom sessions, we will schedule in-person skill sessions on the weekends.  The skill session dates listed below are independent of one another.  A participant who has completed the online training only needs to attend and successfully complete one skill session weekend.
The cost for the Lifeguard Training course is $350 per participant.  Those participants who join the CU LG Staff will receive a $300 reimbursement.  The fee includes Lifeguard, First-Aid, and CPR certifications. Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Our lifeguarding program will help students develop skills that will be of value to future employers.  Please be aware there are several prerequisites (listed below) which must be met on the first day in order to continue in the program.  Students should practice these skills as needed before beginning the class, as there are no refunds given once the class has started.
Please note: The Lifeguard course we offer is for training those who wish to be lifeguards at swimming pools only.

Prerequisites
  • Be at least 15 years old
  • Swim 300 yards continuously (100 free, 100 breaststroke, then 100 either free or breaststroke)
  • Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke; surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet; bring a 10-pound diving brick to the surface; and swim back with the brick holding it with both hands while keeping one’s face above water (overall time = 1 minute 40 seconds)

CPR for the Professional Rescuer recertification is $100.  CPR recertification participants are expected to provide their own rescue mask.  Register early to ensure your choice of classes.
