Vial of Life: Vial of Life is a program sponsored by Wal-Mart. Volunteers distribute empty medication vials containing two information sheets and 2 window decals. The information sheets contain information such as name, phone number, address, allergies, known illnesses, medications taking, etc… which the patients put in their glove compartment and freezer/refrigerator. Then, they put the window decal at the bottom of the back window of their car and on the front window of their house- this lets EMS, neighbors, or any other help know that there is information available in the vial (this is a widely known program with EMTs, fire-fighters, police officers, etc). It is a very good cause and patient education about it is growing rapidly.
Susan H. Komen Breast Cancer Bracelets: PDC this year has sold breast cancer bracelets distributed by target that say “Spread Beauty, Share Hope.” The profits all go towards the Susan H. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. PDC as a whole will have sold over 600 bracelets when all the money is collected.
Adopt-A-Highway: PDC has adopted a stretch of highway right off of 421 in Lillington on Neill’s Creek Road. At least one time every 3 months we must go and pick up trash on the side of the road.
Easter Egg Hunt at Buies Creek Elementary: Every year around Easter time the brothers of PDC get together and hide plastic eggs with candy inside of them for the kindergarten through 2nd graders of Buies Creek Elementary. The kids love it!
Spring Fling: Annually, the Baptist Student Union at Campbell University (usually in April) put a day together for the mentally handicapped from around the area. There are balloon animals, games, magicians, usually the athletes do some sort of dunk or home-run contests, and worship music at the end. They need many volunteers every year, and PDC brothers as advisors go out and help in anyway they can.
Harnett County Hospice: More details to come…
Reading to the Children: At Buies Creek Elementary, brothers of PDC also read to the 1st and 2nd graders at least once a semester.
Haunted House at Buies Creek Elementary: the brothers of PDC put on a “haunted house” for the kids at BCE every Halloween. Brothers dress up and scare the kids as well as pass out candy and play games. One of the most fun events all year long! For Information regarding service projects please contact the worthy prelate |
