The Campbell
University School of Pharmacy was founded in 1986. As
part of its mission, the Drug Information Center (DIC) was
established the following year. The DIC is located in
the Carrie Rich Memorial Library on the campus of Campbell
University, Buies Creek, North Carolina.
The
DIC has the following mandates:

To serve the
health professions community by answering drug-related
questions;
-
To provide a
learning center for pharmacy students in drug information
skills;
-
To aid in the
promotion of the pharmacy school by offering drug
information
services throughout the state;
-
To promote the
profession of pharmacy;
-
To offer
post-graduate residency training in drug information.
Services:
Most of the drug
information services offered by the DIC are provided free of
charge. These services include:

Provision of drug
information and supporting documentation to questions posed
by healthcare practitioners;
-
Provision of drug
therapy updates via a newsletter published in
conjunction with the School of Pharmacy;
-

consultative services in the areas of quality assurance
programs,
adverse drug-reaction reporting, formulary management and
education seminars;

Participation in
pharmacy-related research.

All inquiries to
the DIC are documented and responses are indexed and filed.
When contacting the DIC, the following information is
requested:
-
Name, title,
location and phone number of the inquirer;
-
The actual
question and the underlying reason the question is being
asked;
-
Background
information which may be beneficial (e.g., how long the
patient has
been receiving the medication, etc.); and,
-
When the answer
is needed.
Quality Assurance:
A quality assurance
program has been developed to ensure consistent and accurate
service. The Educational Resources Committee of the School of
Pharmacy is the advisory board for the Drug Information
Center.

Drug Information Center is
