Old-fashioned “Block Party” set for Harnett County community
It’s a chance to get together with neighbors and
friends, swap stories, eat hot dogs, enjoy games and listen to a powerful
performance by the North Carolina Baptist All State Youth Choir. It is Campbell
University’s version of an old-fashioned Block Party held in cooperation with
the Youth Choir on Wednesday, July 18, from 5 p.m. until 7:30 pm., on the
Academic Circle of the Campbell campus. Admission is $1 per person.
The North Carolina Baptist All State Youth Choir is
composed of 90 high school youth who are active in the music ministry and life
of their church. It is an auditioned group from churches all over the state and
is sponsored by the Baptist State Convention.
“This is the first time Campbell has hosted such an
event, and we hope it will not be the last,” said Campus Minister Faithe Beam.
Beam added that the idea for the party actually came from the choir itself.
“The choir has always provided a tremendous music
ministry for North Carolina Baptists,” Beam said. “But choir members and Baptist
State Convention leaders wanted to expand on that mission by demonstrating to
the youth that as people of God there are other ways to serve in addition to
music.”
Choir members will serve food, help with the games and
interact with the guests as well as perform, Beam added.
Visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
Some chairs will be provided. For more information, contact the Office of the
Campus Minister at 910.893.1547.
