Retired principal continues to guide his students
Thanks to Fayetteville couple Harold and Annie Warren,
worthy graduates of Pine Forest High School will have a unique opportunity to
attend Campbell University through an endowed scholarship established especially
for them. Warren, who was the high school’s principal for 32 years, said he
couldn’t think of a better way to be an advocate for education while rewarding
the academic abilities of Pine Forest students.
“It’s an honor and a privilege for us to cooperate with
a fine institution like Campbell University in awarding this scholarship,” said
Warren, who is a 1948 graduate of Campbell College. “Campbell really helped
prepare me for continuing my education by taking a vital interest in me as a
student.”
Warren was also impressed by the emphasis Campbell
placed on Christian values and character building.
Warren, who is a funeral director at Jernigan-Warren
Funeral Home, went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Wake Forest
College in 1950 and a master’s degree in education and educational specialist
certification from East Carolina University.
An educator for 37 years, Warren coached and taught science
and social studies at Clement High School in Clement, N.C., He went on to serve
as principal at several Cumberland County schools, including Cedar Creek and
Long Hill elementary schools, but he is especially proud of his years at Pine
Forest.
“It’s a joy to me to see Pine Forest students who would
like to be able to attend Campbell University have an opportunity to do so,”
Warren said.
Warren served on the board of trustees of the
Cumberland County Public Library and Information Center and is a member of the
Campbell University Presidential Board of Advisors.
