Campbell to welcome largest freshman class in history
A total of 760 students and their parents will descend
upon Campbell University during the first session of New Student Orientation on
Friday, June 22. The orientation begins at 8 a.m. Friday and ends Saturday after
students have been allowed to register for fall classes.
Herb Kerner, dean of Admissions for the University,
said he attributes the enrollment increase to innovative new programs and
leadership.
“You can just walk around and see the visible
improvements,” Kerner said. “You can tell by the dust on your shoes that many
new buildings are going up and new landscaping and commons areas have been
developed. But a lot of changes are also substantive such as new academic
programs, internships and travel abroad opportunities. The word has gotten out
about the richness and diversity of the curriculum.”
Kerner explained that the improvements not only
translate into jobs for students, but into the best possible education.
“We’ve always had a good product,” Kerner said. “Our
graduates are known for their high standards and hard work ethic. Now we’re
doing more to combine the theoretical with the practical, to provide experiences
and opportunities in a real world setting. Approximately 85 percent of our
students complete internships in their field of study.”
New Student Orientation isn’t just about academics,
however, there are also plenty of opportunities to experience campus life,
including live entertainment by comedian Steve Brogan, a special screening of
“Night at the Museum” and a Night Owl party on Fellowship Commons featuring
local group “Willow Drive.”
