Lord receives Dean’s Excellence in Research award
Professor Richard A. Lord, of the Norman Adrian Wiggins School Law at Campbell
University, received the Dean’s Excellence in Research award, for his article,
“The At-Will Relationship in the 21st Century: A Consideration of
Consideration,” published in the Baylor Law Review. The 70-page article examines
the at-will employment relationship, under which many Americans are employed.
Lord is also the revising author and editor of the 4th
Edition of Williston on Contracts, a 31-volume treatise that serves as one of
the major resources on contract law for lawyers and courts throughout the United
States. Lord’s nationally renowned work on Williston has been ongoing since
1989. He is an elected member of the American Law Institute and a North Carolina
Commissioner on the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws.
He also serves as the advisor to Campbell’s Moot Court Association and coaches
many of Campbell’s award-winning appellate Moot Court teams. Lord teaches
Contracts and Commercial Law at Campbell.
“Professor Lord is a nationally known expert in
Contracts Law and a prolific scholar,” said Melissa Essary, dean of the Norman
Adrian Wiggins School of Law. “He is devoted to the law and to Campbell Law
School, and he is eminently deserving of this recognition."
Lord earned his B.A. from Alfred University, his J.D.
from Memphis State University, and his LL.M. from Yale University. He has taught
on the faculty of the University of North Dakota School of Law and as a Visiting
Professor at Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis, Texas Wesleyan
University School of Law, Rutgers University School of Law-Camden and the
University of Missouri-Kansas City.
