School of Education confers 23 graduate degrees
The Campbell University School of Education conferred
23 masters’ degrees at a hooding service on Sunday, May 13, in the Rogers Fine
Arts Center. A total of 19 candidates received the Master of Education degree,
three received the Master of School Administration and one received the Master
of Arts.
“Teaching is a calling much like the ministry,” Dr.
Karen Nery, dean of the School of Education remarked.
“Dr. Kathy Sullivan, senior policy advisor to the State
Board of Education, delivered the keynote address.
“You are about to graduate to new professions,
opportunities and roles,” Sullivan said. “I hope you use the knowledge and
skills that you have learned to earn a master’s degree in your professional
endeavors.”
The state has adopted a new guiding mission, Sullivan
added. “Every student will leave school prepared for life in the 21st century
and global education,” she said, “because they are competing in a global
economy.”
Sullivan joined the Department of Public Instruction in
1998 as chief of the Teacher Education Section. She was later named director of
the Division of Human Resource Management. She was named Senior Policy Advisor
to the State Board of Education earlier this year.
Campbell’s School of Education offers undergraduate
