Meiburg receives honorary degree
Dr. Albert Meiburg, leading authority on Pastoral Theology, received the
Honorary Doctor of Divinity at Campbell University’s graduation exercises on
Monday, May 14. Meiburg, who delivered the baccalaureate address on Sunday, is
Senior Professor of Pastoral Care at the Campbell Divinity School. He resides in
Raleigh.
A 1947 graduate of Clemson University, Meiburg earned
Bachelor of Divinity and Doctor of Theology degrees from Southern Baptist
Theological Seminary. He continued his education pursuing post-doctoral studies
as a Visiting Scholar at the Union Theological Seminary in New York. He served
as a research associate in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of
Louisville, earned a Specialist in Aging Certificate from the University of
Michigan and held a Visiting Scholar appointment at Regents Park College,
University of Oxford.
Meiburg served as pastor of Belmont Baptist Church in
Belmont, Ky., prior to pursuing a professional career in higher education. Among
numerous areas of responsibility, Meiburg served as a professor and academic
dean at Wingate University, as associate director of the department of Pastoral
Care at North Carolina Baptist Hospital and as dean of the faculty and professor
of Pastoral Theology at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (18 years). He
joined the Campbell Divinity School faculty in 1998.
Meiburg is the author, co-author and editor of
numerous books, scholarly articles, essays and book reviews.
