Campbell Law Professor Recognized for Contributions to Real Estate Manual

    Patrick Hetrick, a professor at Campbell University’s Norman A. Wiggins School of Law, was honored this month for his work on the 2006-2007 edition of the North Carolina Real Estate Manual, an 841 textbook published by the NC Real Estate Commission.
     The North Carolina Real Estate Commission presented Hetrick with a Certificate of Recognition on August 9 for his research and writing efforts for the 2006-2007 Edition of the publication.
     The NC Real Estate Manual serves as the authorized textbook for the real estate broker post-licensing courses in the state. The 2006-2007 Edition was published last month. The manual is the primary reference source for the more than 100,000 real estate commissioned licensees, attorneys, instructors and others interested in real estate law or brokerage practice in North Carolina.
     Professor Hetrick has co-authored the manual for 25 of its 30 years in publication.
“I’ve worked on this for several decades. The book is a text on North Carolina real estate law written in plain English for people who are not lawyers,” he said.
     The book includes sections on licensing requirements and practical chapters on appraisal of real estate, real estate closings and the ethical and professional responsibility rules for licensees.
     Patrick Hetrick received his JD. degree magna cum laude from the Marquette University Law School, where he was a member of the law review. He practiced law in Milwaukee before returning to Marquette University as a professor of law and associate university legal counsel. In 1978, he joined the law faculty at Campbell University. He served as Dean of the School of Law from 1987 to 1998.
     Hetrick is also the revising co-author of Webster’s Real Estate Law in North Carolina.
