Lawrence Welk All Stars, North
Carolina Pops to perform at Campbell
Members
of the Lawrence Welk All Stars team up with the North Carolina Pops Orchestra
for an unforgettable evening Thursday, September 8, at Campbell University. The
concert is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Scott Concert Hall of the Rogers Fine Arts
Center. Tickets are $25 each.
Dixieland trombonist Bob Havens was a regular on the
Lawrence Welk Show for two decades. His solid technical skills and warm sound
were a popular feature of the show’s Dixieland segments. Havens also played with
George Girard and Al Hirt and has been fixture of Dixieland and mainstream jazz
festivals since the 1960s.
A memorable country singer with several hit songs to
her credit, Ava Barber was a Lawrence Welk favorite for many years. Her hit
record, “Waiting at the End of Your Run,” reached number three on the Billboard
Charts. She has also appeared on the television shows “Nashville Now,” “Music
City Tonight” and “The Grand Ole Opry.”
The North Carolina Pops Orchestra is made up of
musicians from the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra as well as local
professional instrumentalists from the Triangle area.
