Journalism professor offers
ideas on getting published
Want to get published? Campbell’s Michael Ray Smith may have some ideas for you.
Christian Radio Station WCLN’s Dan Debruber will
interview Smith live Wednesday, August 17, at 10:30 a.m. at WCLN 107.3 FM in
Fayetteville, N.C. Smith, who is chairman of Campbell University’s Department of
Mass Communication, will talk about his new book, “Feature Writing. Net.”
“The novelty of the FeatureWriting.Net approach is that
it shows the writer ways to parlay the Internet into articles,” Smith said. “The
Web is no substitute for field reporting’s old-fashioned pad and lead pencil
method, but it can put the tools of the pros into a writer’s hands to give you a
season pass into the competitive world of writing.”
In addition, Smith will lead a mini-writer’s workshop,
Friday, September 2, at 7 p.m. at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 121 Glensford Road
in Fayetteville near Cross Creek Mall. Following the workshop, he will sign
copies of his new book, “Feature Writing.Net.” A total of 200 copies of the book
have already been sold to World Journalism Institute, a nonprofit journalism
training program. Another 100 copies have been requested by the Baptist Press
national news service.
Smith is an award-winning writer, photojournalist,
academic and conference speaker. FeatureWriting.Net is his fourth book. Smith is
also the author of 3,000 articles for newspapers and magazines. He leads writing
workshops across the nation. His Web site is featurewriting.net. For more
information, contact Barnes & Noble community relations manager Frank Davis at
