Elva Scarborough recognized by
U.S. Postal Service
Among the many hats Campbell University’s Elva Scarborough wears is director of
the University Mail Program. In this role, Mrs. Scarborough, who is also
associate director of Campbell’s Service Enterprises, has represented Campbell
University on the U.S. Postal Service Customer Council (PCC) for over 30 years.
Recently, she was recognized by the deputy postmaster general of the United
States for contributions and service that have resulted in several innovative
ideas. Among these are the initiation of the PCC golf tournament as a fundraiser
for educational programs for the business community, which gained national
participation; and serving on the committee that recommended an adjustment in
policy to accept a $0.00 postage meter strip on metered mail to correct an
incorrect date. As a result, that adjustment in national policy is now listed in
the Domestic Mail Manual.
“Your unselfish volunteerism exemplifies what has made
this customer-driven program a success,” said Deputy Postmaster General Patrick
R. Donahoe, “It is with great pleasure that I present you this award as a token
of our sincere appreciation for your leadership and dedication to the PCC
program.”
A Campbell employee since 1970, Mrs. Scarborough
in cooperation with husband, Todd Scarborough, has worked to perform Service
Enterprises’ numerous responsibilities, including photography, graphic arts,
printing, university mail service and others.
“I was totally surprised and especially thrilled with
the award,” said Mrs. Scarborough, who was presented a plaque and engraved
crystal vase by the U.S. Postal Service, and 24 long-stemmed red roses by the
Triangle PCC. “It was quite an honor. I still enjoy serving on the council and
enjoy the problem-solving work that I’m able to do as a member.”
Mrs. Scarborough has held every executive position with
the PCC and served as industry co-chair.
