Malaysian graduates top 10,000
On June
18, 2005, University vice president for Academic Affairs and provost, Dr. Dwaine
Greene, and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Mark Hammond,
represented Campbell at the graduation ceremony for its program in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia. A total of 1,165 students were graduated with the Bachelor of Science
degree, bringing the total number of graduates from the program to 10,159.
This year’s ceremony was especially significant since it marked the 25th
graduation since beginning so modestly with 15 graduates in 1981. In
acknowledging the 25th graduation and representing President Jerry M. Wallace,
Provost Greene announced the establishment of a scholarship fund with priority
for Tunku Abdul Rahman College graduates, and he presented an engraved plate to
TARC Principal, Ms. Yoong Lai Thye. Principal Yoong reciprocated with a
commemorative engraved plate to mark the 25th year milestone.
Commenting on the graduation, Provost Greene said that there is no
ceremony quite like the TARC graduation. “These students and their families are
so appreciative of the opportunity to receive an education. They work so hard,
and each year I am reminded of the new meaning they give to gratitude. It is a
wonderful part of Campbell’s mission to be a partner in this program,” he said.
Dean Mark Hammond delivered the graduation address and, while reminding
students of key contributing factors in their success, encouraged them forward
to a lifetime of continuing achievement.
