Ed Gore elected to Campbell board
Sunset Beach real estate developer Edward M. “Ed” Gore, Sr., was recently
elected to Campbell University’s Presidential Board of Advisors. Gore is the
president of Sunset Beach and Twin Lakes, Inc., and vice president of Sea Trail
Corporation real estate companies.
A 1952 graduate of Campbell College, Gore went on to
earn a degree in business education from East Carolina University in 1955. In
addition, he studied Russian at Syracuse University. He enlisted in the U.S. Air
Force, serving a four-year tour of duty, and spent another six years as a member
of the Air Force Reserve. Gore and his wife, Dinah, joined his father, Mannon C.
Gore, the founder of Sunset Beach and Twin Lakes, Inc. to become
second-generation developers of the Sunset Beach area. Mannon C. Gore retired in
1972 and the Gores went on to become sole founders of the 2,000-acre Ocean Ridge
Plantation planned development and co-founders of the 2,000-acre Sea Trail
resort community.
Recently, Ed and Dinah Gore donated $4 million toward
the construction of Campbell University’s John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center, a
$30 million sports and cultural events facility scheduled to be completed within
the next five years. The center’s 3,000-seat area will be named in memory of the
Gore’s late son, Gilbert Craig Gore, who died in childhood.
Gore has served on the Sunset Beach Town Council for
over 40 years and as a member of the Board of Realtors for Brunswick County. He
is a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Lions Club and the South Brunswick Rotary
Club, who named him 2004 Citizen of the Year.
The Gores are members of Calvary Baptist Church in
Shallotte, N.C., where he has served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and
member of the Finance Committee
Sons Gregory S. Gore and Edward M. Gore, Jr., are also entrepreneurs. Edward
owns Xranda Internet Service and Gregory owns two Century 21 real estate
franchises.
