New Programs, New Facilities in Store for Students

The new McLeod Athletic Training Facility is being
completed at Campbell University. The facility will
be dedicated on September 27.

With registration only weeks away, Campbell University is putting the finishing touches on several projects that will expand both educational and recreational opportunities for students. The university’s new McLeod Athletic Training Facility is in the final stages of construction; renovation of the historic D. Rich Memorial Building should be completed by mid-August; and the International Student Center will move from its location adjacent to U.S. 421 to a building located directly behind Wallace Student Center.

Just eight years after it opened, the Campbell University Divinity School will offer the Doctor of Ministry program in addition to the Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Christian Education degree programs. The Association of Theological Schools (ATS) approved the new program in 2004.

“We want to prepare qualified candidates already trained and involved in ministry to render spiritual, ecclesiastical, and vocational Christian leadership at a high level of expertise consistent with the mission statement of the Divinity School,” said Dr. Michael Cogdill, dean of the Divinity School. “The doctoral program will enhance analytical and professional competency by integrating theory with practice through inclusive interaction with peers, professors, and supervisors.”

The Campbell Divinity School also offers certificate programs in preschool and children’s ministry and in congregational leadership for Hispanics.

While the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business is not set to introduce any new academic programs this fall, it will be under the leadership of a new academic dean, Dr. Ben Hawkins. Hawkins came to Campbell from Louisiana College in Pineville, LA, where he served as vice president of Academic Affairs and Student Life. He is a native of Rock Hill, SC, and was the Hubert and Mandolene D. Reding Professor of Business at Louisiana College.

“I am excited about the opportunity to serve as the dean of the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business,” Hawkins said. “To become a part of Campbell University, one of the outstanding universities in the Southeast, is an honor and a privilege.”

Although part of a long-range plan, fundraising is underway for a new Convocation Center to replace Carter Gymnasium. The center is projected to be a multi-purpose, multi-educational complex that will serve as an athletic and recreational facility, a gathering place for students, and a venue for campus and community events. The architectural firm of Little Diversified Architectural Consulting has been selected to design the center, and the T.A. Loving Company, of Goldsboro, NC, has been hired as the building contractor. The Convocation Center is part of a comprehensive master plan for Campbell that includes several new facilities.

Campbell is also expecting approximately 100 additional undergraduate students on its main campus this fall.

Founded in 1887, Campbell University is North Carolina’s second largest private institution of higher education and the second largest Baptist university in the world. Located in Buies Creek, NC, just east of the center of the state, Campbell combines academic excellence and Christian commitment.
