Former Campbell Professor Publishes Book

Dr. Lenne Kugler-Hunt

When Dr. Lenne Kugler-Hunt walks through her garden and commands the aphids to be gone, she is taking dominion over her environment, a God-given mandate for all heirs to the Kingdom. Her book, The Fatherhood of God and the Sonship of Man, explores the fatherly aspect of mankind’s relationship with God and how it empowers us. Hunt is a former Campbell University psychology professor who left to pursue a career in writing and illustration.

“Of course, that’s really an extreme example,” Kugler-Hunt said of the aphids, “but it isn’t all that far-fetched if we are to believe scripture. As the Son of God, Jesus imparts to us that piece of himself that knew how to be a son and with that comes a destiny and a calling.”

Kugler-Hunt explains that if we were to really realize who we’re called to be, it would be greater and more powerful than our most imaginative fantasy. “One issue of being a son is to have dominion over things,” she said. “God called Adam to ‘tend the garden,’ to ‘work the land.’ Adam’s job was to stand in the breach to face the enemy, and he could act out of God’s power in regard to the land and the animals.”

So it is with mankind. “We are supposed to take command, heal the sick, and cast out demons, but that doesn’t happen anymore in the church today,” said Kugler-Hunt.

The Fatherhood of God explains how God as a father is defined by love and fueled by great passion to call us his own. Although God’s fatherhood is the basis for all human fatherhood, it stands apart from our familial human relationships, according to Kugler-Hunt.

“No matter how good your father has been, he cannot come close to the goodness of God’s fathering,” Kugler-Hunt said. “Understanding God as Father and ourselves as His children radically changes how we relate to God and begins to answer questions we have about the purpose of our lives.”

The Fatherhood of God and the Sonship of Man is currently available in paperback from Xulon Pres (www.xulonpress.com/bookstore) or may be orderd through local bookstores. The book is divided into two parts; the first examines what life would be like if mankind lived it as though God is the Father and the second looks at what life would be like if we lived it as if we are God’s sons. Kugler-Hunt can be contacted at www.deep-unto-deep.com. Kugler-Hunt’s Deep Unto Deep Designs is an art ministry aimed at illustrating the Word and character of God.
