McCosley Wins Full Scholarship to Campbell

Jennifer McCosley

Jennifer Rae McCosley, of Broadway, NC, is the recipient of a $70,000, four-year scholarship to Campbell University. McCosley, a graduate of Western Harnett High School, was awarded the 2004-2005 First Citizens Bank Scholarship after a scholarship competition was held in May.

The daughter of John and Naoma McCosley, Jennifer is one of nine siblings. “It was a running joke in my family that if I didn’t get a scholarship, I wouldn’t go to college,” she laughed. “It might have been a joke, but I knew there was some truth in it, so I always did the best I could.”

McCosley’s best included being heavily involved in her church and in school activities as a member of the school orchestra, serving as concert mistress her sophomore and junior years; as a member of Network of Christians, a group that sponsored events and met for weekly prayer sessions; chorus; choral ensemble, Government in Action, and the Hillmon Grove Baptist Church youth group. McCosley has also served as a peer tutor and teen missionary. As a member of her church youth group and a World Changers missionary team, she spent a week in Alaska this summer in which 30 people were won to Christ.

“It was awesome; God was moving in Alaska, and he was moving in all of our hearts,” McCosley said.

That and other mission experiences have fueled McCosley’s desire to continue mission work. “Helping someone gives you this amazing feeling,” she said. “They always want to repay you, but the best payment is to see them give their hearts to Christ.”

McCosley, who plans to major in business administration at Campbell and plans to go on to graduate school, selected Campbell over the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University.

“I visited the other schools, but they seemed so impersonal.” she said. “When I came to Campbell and looked around, it just fit.”

Founded in 1887, Campbell University is North Carolina’s second largest private institution of higher education and the second largest Baptist university in the world. Located in Buies Creek, NC, just east of the center of the state, Campbell combines academic excellence and Christian commitment.
