Friends of the Fine Arts Announce 2004-05 Schedule


The Triangle Brass Band

The Cape Fear Friends of the Fine Arts have announced the organization’s 2004-05 Fine Arts Events Schedule. The schedule is highlighted by concerts by The North Carolina Pops Orchestra, the Triangle Brass Band, the Army Blues Band, and the Vienna Boys Choir.

The North Carolina Pops Orchestra will kick off the season with a concert on Thursday, September 9, at 8 p.m. in Scott Concert Hall. This concert will follow the annual meeting of the Cape Fear Friends of the Fine Arts which will be a dinner meeting at 5 p.m. in Shouse Dining Hall on the campus. The North Carolina Pops Orchestra is comprised of members of the North Carolina Symphony and other superb Triangle musicians. The university’s director of Instrumental Studies, Dr. Charles Dwayne Wilson, will guest conduct this concert of light classical music.

Monthly highlights include the following: October 28, Triangle Brass Band; November 29, Christmas at Campbell; January 13, John Daniecki, world-renowned tenor; February 3, Vienna Boys Choir; March 31, The University Choir in Concert; April 12, Wind Ensemble Pops Concert.

The Triangle Brass Band is a group of 38 brass and percussion performers drawn from the Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina. It was formed in 1986 as a joint venture of the A. J. Fletcher Foundation and Capitol Broadcasting company of Raleigh, NC. It became self-sustaining after three years of sponsorship from these roots.

The Vienna Boys’ Choir is one of the oldest boys’ choirs existing in the world. For nearly five hundred years they have been a symbol of Austria. Noted musicians Joseph Haydn and Franz Schubert emerged from the ranks of the Vienna Boys Choir.

Drama events on the schedule include the fall musical "Into the Woods," October 22, 23, 28, 29, & 30; Drama One-Acts on February 11, 12, 17, 18, 19; "Blood Relations" April 8, 9, 14, 15, & 16; Paul Green One-Act Festival, April 20 & 21.

Other featured performers include Dennis de Jong, trumpeter; Fabio Parrini, pianist; the Army Blues Band; the Chamber Ensemble; Francesc de Paula Soler, guitarist; Mayron Tsong, pianist; Jazz Ensemble; University Choir; Wind and Percussion Ensemble; and the University Choral Society.

The Sauls Art Gallery will feature art exhibitions continuously from August 10 through May 11.

The Cape Fear Friends of the Fine Arts offer several levels of membership priced from $20 for students to Lifetime Membership for $2,000. The various memberships include tickets to the annual dinner and tickets to all fine arts events at Campbell University.
