Student Orientation Well-Attended

The first New Student Orientation session of the summer drew one of the largest crowds in the history of Campbell University. Over 1,200 new students and their parents attended the two-day session, Friday, June 25, and Saturday, June 26,which featured meetings with academic and financial aid advisors and university faculty, administration, and students.

“The orientation went well,” said Herb Kerner, dean of Admissions for Campbell. “The weather was good, the crowd was nice, and the students were able to work on their schedules with faculty advisors and take care of administrative issues and other details before they get here in the fall.”

Kerner said New Student Orientation allows students to get a good “feel” for Campbell University. “The beauty of Campbell is that we like for students to feel like they belong from the beginning,” Kerner said. “We want them to know that Campbell is a nice place full of nice people.”

Registration which began at 8 a.m. on Friday, June 25, at the Rogers Fine Arts Center, was followed by opening ceremonies in which the new students and their families were personally welcomed by Dr. Jerry M. Wallace, president of Campbell.

Parent information sessions, which provided insight into financial aid options and regulations, student activities and organizations, and educational costs were also conducted by Nancy Beasley, director of Financial Aid; Dr. James Ellerbe, vice president for Business and treasurer of Campbell; Win Quakenbush, director of Financial Management; and Dennis Bazemore, vice president for Student Life.

Students and their parents enjoyed lunch and a street fair on the Marshbanks Dining Hall Commons and a reception from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. in the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business.

The reception was followed by an evening of entertainment in which parents and students could choose to attend a performance by comedian Steve Brogan in the Rogers Fine Arts Center or a Friday night movie in Lynch Auditorium of the School of Business.

On Saturday, June 26, students received advisement from their major department faculty and were able to pre-register for the fall semester.

A second New Student Orientation session is scheduled for July 9-10.

Founded in 1887, Campbell University is North Carolina’s second largest private institution of higher education and the second largest Baptist university in the world. Located in Buies Creek, NC, just east of the center of the state, Campbell combines academic excellence and Christian commitment.
