Athletic Training Student Receives Award

Jessie Germeroth, a 2004 graduate of the Athletic Training Education Program at Campbell University, was named the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers' Association (MAATA) scholarship winner for 2004.

A native of Reisterstown, MD, Germeroth was president of Campbell’s Athletic Training Club for the 2003-2004 school year. She previously served as secretary of the club. As a student, she was also involved in student athlete tutoring, worked on the staff of the Pine Burr (the university yearbook), and was an officer in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Athletic Training is an allied health profession encompassing emergency care and injury prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of the athletic and physically active population. Often grouped as Sports Medicine, athletic trainers work closely with physicians of various specialties, and are held to rigorous continuing education requirements. At Campbell, the program is housed within the Department of Exercise Science.

Germeroth was presented with her award at the MAATA Annual Symposium at the Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach, VA, on May 21-23. There she also presented her abstract on the Female Triad, a condition that affects physically active women through amenorrhea, eating disorders, and osteoporosis.

Founded in 1887, Campbell University is North Carolina’s second largest private institution of higher education and the second largest Baptist university in the world. Located in Buies Creek, NC, just east of the center of the state, Campbell combines academic excellence and Christian commitment.
