Jonas Receives Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award

Dr. William Glenn Jonas, Jr., associate professor
and chairman of the Campbell University Department of Religion and
Philosophy, has received the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award for
2004. Jonas joined the Campbell faculty in 1994.
A professor of church history, Jonas has written two
books and numerous articles. His book, A Journey of Faith: An
Introduction to Christianity, co-authored with three other
colleagues, is used as a textbook for introductory religion courses.
Jonas received a bachelor’s degree in religion from Mars
Hill College and a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Theological
Seminary. He went on to earn a Ph.D. from Baylor University, where he
served as an oral historian prior to coming to Campbell.
Among other organizations, Jonas is a member of the
American Society of Church History, the American Academy of Religion,
the National Association of Baptist Professors of Religion, and the
Baptist History and Heritage Society. Jonas was named Professor of the
Year by Campbell University’s Student Government Association in 1997 and
again in 2002.
Jonas has served on the Executive Committee of the North
Carolina Baptist Historical Society and as a book review editor for the
journal, Baptist History and Heritage.
An ordained minister, he has pastored churches in Texas
and served nine North Carolina churches as interim pastor. He is a
native of Rockwell, NC, but was raised in Gastonia. He and his wife,
Pam, are the parents of two daughters.
Founded in 1887, Campbell University is North Carolina’s
second largest private institution of higher education and the second
largest Baptist university in the world. Located in Buies Creek, NC,
just east of the center of the state, Campbell combines academic
excellence and Christian commitment.
