Students Inducted into
Phi Eta Sigma
Campbell University recently installed 70 new members
in the university chapter of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. Phi
Eta Sigma is a national honor society inspired by the past and dedicated
to the future. Its goal is to encourage and reward academic excellence
among freshmen enrolled in institutions of higher education.
The oldest and largest freshman honor society, Phi
Eta Sigma was founded at the University of Illinois in March 1923, and
now has more than 300 chapters throughout the United States and more
than 700,000 members.
Phi Eta Sigma was voted membership into the
Association of College Honor Societies in 1937. Only three societies
have had longer continuous membership.
Induction is an outward recognition of personal
accomplishment and serves as an incentive for continued high
scholarship. It provides members the opportunity to meet freshmen
scholars from all academic disciplines on their campuses. Members may
apply for scholarships available from national and local chapters.
Freshmen students selected for membership must
possess an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher and must be in the upper 20
percent of their class. The Campbell University Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma
was chartered in 1974.
Among the honorary inductees this year were Campbell
professors Dr. James Martin, Dr. Kathryn Lopez, and Ms. Jennifer Davis
(Adjunct).
Founded in 1887, Campbell University is North
Carolina’s second largest private institution and the second largest
Baptist university in the world. Located in Buies Creek, NC, just east
of the center of the state, Campbell combines academic excellence and
Christian commitment.
