E. Gregory Wallace, of Fuquay-Varina, NC, received
the Dean’s Excellence in Research Award from Campbell University’s
Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law. Wallace, an associate professor
of law, was selected for the award for his dissertation written as a
requirement for the Doctor of Juridical Science degree.
Titled Higher Call: Foundations of Religious Freedom
in American Constitutionalism, the dissertation provides a rigorous
and extensive examination of the foundations of the First Amendment
guarantee of religious freedom in America, making a compelling argument
for revisiting and recovering the religious justifications for religious
freedom.
“In addition to his research and writing activities,
Professor Wallace is an excellent teacher,” said Willis Whichard, dean
of the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law. “His blend of scholarly
intellect and warm winsome Christian character contribute significantly
to the life of both the mind and the spirit at the Campbell Law School.”
Wallace received a Master of Laws degree from the
University of Virginia School of Law. He went on to earn a Juris Doctor
from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Wallace also holds a
master’s degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. He received a Doctor
of Juridical Science from the University of Virginia.
Before joining the Campbell law faculty, Wallace was a
visiting professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and an
attorney with a substantial federal appellate practice. He also served
as a law clerk to United States District Judge Susan Webber Wright in
the Eastern District of Arkansas.
Founded in 1976, the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law
has an enrollment of over 300 students and enjoys a heritage derived
from three distinct traditions--the noble tradition of the legal
profession, the Christian tradition, and the finer traditions of the
rural South, such as friendliness and self-reliance. It seeks to educate
lawyers who are prepared to serve their communities with legal skills
and ethical and intellectual leadership.
