A Campbell University Divinity School Scholarship
has been established by former North Carolina Senator Robert Warren
in memory of his wife, Ann Sparks Warren.
Son Dave Warren, of Dunn, NC, was among the family and
friends who gathered to announce the creation of the Robert Davis and
Ann Sparks Warren Endowed Scholarship.
“I know of no better way to memorialize mom and to honor
dad than through a Campbell University Divinity School Scholarship,”
Dave said. “Hearing the testimony and seeing the school’s videotape made
it evident that this scholarship is a wonderful channel for her (his
mother’s) memory to be carried forward.”
Dr. Michael Cogdill, dean of the Campbell Divinity
School, expressed his gratitude to the Warren family. “Our Divinity
School is greatly honored to have the Warren Scholarship as part of our
program,” he said. “This scholarship is a true reflection of the
generosity, faith, and love of the Warren family for God and others.”
Ann Sparks and Bob Warren were married in 1951. Bob
Warren grew up in Sampson County, where his forefathers gave the land
for Mt. Elam Baptist Church.
He graduated from North Carolina State University, where
he majored in vocational education. Warren taught agriculture for 15
years before becoming county administrator for Vocational Education. He
also served as principal of both Benson High School and Benson
Elementary School before his bid for the state Senate. During his
legislative career representing Johnston and Sampson counties, Warren
held positions on several committees, including Education and
Agriculture. After four terms in the Senate, Warren became legislative
liaison for the president pro tem, where he served until his retirement
in 1993.
Ann Warren was born in Bath, NC, and graduated from
Highsmith Hospital School of Nursing in Fayetteville. While she was in
training, she met Warren, a student at N.C. State.
Anyone interested in contributing to the Warren
scholarship may do so by sending a check to the Campbell University
Divinity School designated for the Robert Davis and Ann Sparks Warren
Endowed Scholarship. A total of 80 percent of the interest accrued by
the scholarship fund will be given to a student and the remaining 20
percent will be added to the principal.
