In addition to the Bachelor of Science degree
conferred at spring graduation exercises on Monday, May 10,
biochemistry major Cheryl Lynne Storer took home one of Campbell
University’s highest honors, the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award. The
award not only recognizes outstanding scholarship, but excellent
moral character and a strong work ethic.
A resident of Cameron, NC, Storer maintained an overall
grade point average of 3.97 while holding down more than one job and
participating in numerous campus activities. She has worked in
Campbell’s general chemistry laboratory since fall 2001, and was
selected to serve as an instructor in the lab during her senior year.
Throughout her college career, Storer has also held numerous positions
in the area of Residence Life, including being a resident assistant at
Bryan Hall and Cornelia Pearson Campbell honors house and resident
director of all of the honors houses for females on campus.
While managing her work responsibilities, Storer also
participated in several campus organizations, including the Chemistry
Club, the Walker Biology Club, Campus Crusade for Christ, and the
Baptist Student Union. She is co-founder and co-director of the Campbell
Flute Choir and was active in the Pep Band and the Wind Ensemble. In
addition, Storer was inducted into the honor societies Phi Eta Sigma,
Epsilon Pi Eta, and the PreMed/Allied Health Honor Society. Storer also
served her community as a coach for a Science Olympiad team and a
volunteer with the American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity.
She plans to attend optometry school at the University
of Alabama at Birmingham in the fall, where she is the recipient of the
National Eye Institute Research Training Grant awarded to the most
outstanding new incoming student.
Storer is the daughter of Daniel and Carol Storer and
has a sister, Crystal, who is 16.
Founded in 1887, Campbell University is North Carolina’s
second largest private institution of higher education and the second
