Campbell student to study film in Los Angeles

     Elaine Lee, a mass communication student at Campbell University, will study film in Los Angeles during the fall semester.
     Lee is the second student from the Mass Communication Department to study film at the Los Angeles Film Studies Center, a program sponsored by the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
     “Elaine is one of our outstanding students,” said Dr. Michael Ray Smith, chair of the 130-student program. “She has helped a number of others prepare documentaries and other film narratives.”
     Among Lee’s recent successes is a film project that she helped the School of Pharmacy prepare to help pharmacists with their Hispanic patients. Lee worked with Smith and Prof. David Acuff, a well-known film producer from Raleigh’s Trailblazers Studio. Acuff teaches film at Campbell and assists many students on their projects. Jeremiah McLamb and others also assisted on the film, which will be shown to pharmacists across the state.
     Lee is ecstatic about taking a semester in Los Angeles.
    “I couldn’t sleep the night before the announcement was to be made,” she said. Smith said Lee is one of just a few students selected from hundreds who apply to this competitive program.
     Campbell’s Luke Custer will finish his experience at the film project in a few days and return to Campbell to complete his education. While in California, Custer worked on films and learned about script-writing.
     Located in one of the primary film and television production centers in L.A. and utilizing state of the art camera and editing equipment, LAFSC is designed to integrate a Christian world view with an introductory exploration of the work and workings of mainstream Hollywood entertainment.
