“The Campbell Times” takes top honors in national competition
Campbell University’s campus newspaper, “The Campbell
Times,” took home awards for best news and sports sections, editorial cartoon
and overall excellence at the 2006 Association for Christian Collegiate Media
competition.
A weekly student publication, the “Times” took second-place honors in the
categories of Best News Section and News Story and Opinion Writing and
third-place honors in Best Sports Section, Editorial Cartoon and Sports Writing.
The paper also got an honorable mention for feature writing. However, the most
outstanding win was a second-place in Overall Excellence, besting all but one of
the national contest competitors.
“Our staff consistently works hard to create the best product possible,”
said Melissa Lilley, editor in chief of the newspaper. “These awards honor that
dedication.”
An affiliate of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, the
Association of Christian Collegiate Media strives to provide a positive
atmosphere and professional standards of performance rooted in the
Judeo-Christian ethic, upon which journalistic truth and balance should be
based.
Members of the Editorial Staff of “The Campbell Times” include: Melissa
Lilley, editor in chief; Tiffany Dorrin, designer and entertainment
editor, Nancy Chang, copy editor, Courtney Willey, cartoonist and sports editor,
Aaron Thomas, life editor, and Phillip Graham, circulation. Members of the
campus staff include: Rachel Haskins, editor, and campus writers Lindsay
Fletcher, Laura Hunt, Raelynn Miller, Brandon Bridges and Sarah Beasley.
