Theatre Arts brings “Rumors” to Campbell stage

     The humor in “Rumors,” by Neil Simon, begins when four affluent couples try to cover up an accident involving the deputy mayor of New York by making up a story to explain the fact that he has been shot in the ear lobe, and his wife is nowhere to be found. Presented by the Campbell University Theatre Arts Department, performances of “Rumors” are set for Friday and Saturday, Feb.17-18, at 8p.m., and Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb.23-25, at 8p.m., in the Ellis Theater of the Rogers Fine Arts Center.
     Neil Simon is the world’s most successful playwright. His plays include “Come Blow Your Horn,” “The Odd Couple,” “Lost in Yonkers,” and many more.
     Directed by Dennis Johnson, the cast includes 10 talented students. They play the mayor and his wife; Lenny, an accountant and his wife Claire who try to invent a plausible story for the police; Ken, an uptight lawyer and his wife, Chris; Ernie and Cookie; and Glenn and Cassie.
