Johnson recognized as advertising educator of
the year
RALEIGH-Campbell University professor Dr. Ed Johnson was named “Educator of the
Year" for 2004-2005 by the Ad Club of the Triangle during its Silver Medal
Awards held recently.
Johnson was awarded an engraved Louisville Slugger in recognition for his work
with the region ad club, which included having his students participate in a
variety of ad club activities and advising a new student ad club at Campbell.
The award was presented
at the Brier Crest Country Club in Raleigh by Mac Moore, president of the ad
club. Johnson was also elected to the board of the Triangle’s ad club at the
meeting.
“Ed Johnson is an
advocate for students,” said Michael Ray Smith, chair of the Department of Mass
Communication. “He helps students build high-quality portfolios that demonstrate
the kind of skills his students are learning.”
“As a colleague, Prof.
Johnson’s wry humor keeps his students and colleagues merry of heart,” Smith
said.
This year is the second
one that Johnson has taught advertising at Campbell. Before coming to Campbell,
Johnson taught advertising and public relations in Missouri and Nebraska and
worked in the advertising field before that.
Johnson is a former member of
ad clubs in Chicago, Ill.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Lincoln, Neb.; and Sioux City,
Iowa. He is also active in Baptist Men and Gideons International. His doctorate
is from the University of Alabama and his M.A. is from Wheaton Graduate School.
