Campbell’s Roberts named to Vice-Presidency
James O. Roberts, Director of Campbell University’s Physical Plant Operations,
has been named Vice-President for Business and Treasurer, effective June 1,
2005. The announcement was made Thursday, April 28, at a meeting of the
University’s Board of Trustees. In making the announcement, President Jerry
Wallace said, “Jim Roberts has an impressive array of skills sharpened by
excellent academic preparation and years of leadership experience. He has proven
himself to be an outstanding colleague and advocate for Christian higher
education, and we are most pleased that he is accepting this vice-presidency.”
A resident of Lillington, N.C., Mr. Roberts came to
Campbell as Director of Physical Plant Operations in 1995 from Georgetown

relations from North Carolina State University (1978), and a master’s degree in
Public Affairs from Western Carolina University (1982).
As director of Campbell’s physical plant operations,
Mr. Roberts supervised over 130 employees. His duties included management of
daily operations, maintaining inventories, developing budgets, pursuing bids,
negotiating contracts, and working with government agencies at the federal,
state, and local levels. Under his directorship, a number of major capital
projects were completed at Campbell, including the Lundy-Fetterman School of
Business, the Pharmacy Research Facility, the McLeod Athletic Training Facility,
and Keith Hills Golf Course II. He also supervised renovation of the historic D.
Rich Memorial Building.
Mr. Roberts has maintained an active professional
profile, to include service as Vice-President of Education Services and member
of the Energy Task Force for the Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA).
For his distinguished service, the APPA conferred on him its Meritorious Service
Award in 1999. Mr. Roberts was also a founding member of the Kiwanis Club of
Buies Creek, serving as its president in 2001. He and his wife, Teresa, are
active members of Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek. They are the parents
of three children: Sarah, Will, and Andrew.
“I look forward to continuing the traditions that have
brought Campbell University to its current stature,” Mr. Roberts said. “It’s an
exciting time to be a part of this university.”
