Leader at Baptist State Convention to join Campbell Administration

     Dr. John T. Roberson, Executive Director of the Council on Christian Higher Education and Executive Leader for Convention Relations for the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, will be joining Campbell University in the position of Vice-President for Marketing and Planning, effective June 1, 2005. The announcement was made on Thursday, April 28, following a meeting of the University’s Board of Trustees.
     In making the announcement, Campbell President, Dr. Jerry Wallace, emphasized the appropriateness of bringing Dr. Roberson back to his alma mater. He stated, “John Roberson is a gifted individual with a range of experience and expertise that will prove most helpful in his important responsibilities which lie ahead with Campbell. The University is fortunate to attract Dr. Roberson who, in addition to his leadership skills, maintains such a deep love for Christ and Christian higher education.”
     This is the second time Dr. Roberson will have served on the Campbell staff. During the years, 1989-96, he moved from Campbell’s Director of Alumni Activities to Assistant Vice-President for Alumni Relations and Assistant to the President. Prior to joining the Campbell staff in 1989, Dr. Roberson served as pastor of Salemburg Baptist Church in Salemburg, N.C., and as associate pastor and minister of youth and children with Angier Baptist Church in Angier, N.C.
     In 1997, he moved to the presidency of the North Carolina Missions Development program of the Baptist State Convention. He went on to become Executive Leader for Resource Development and Promotion in 1999, and, in 2003 and 2004 respectively, assumed responsibilities as Executive Director of the Council on Christian Higher Education and Executive Leader for Convention Relations.
     A Campbell alumnus, Dr. Roberson received a Bachelor of Arts degree in religion in 1980. He went on to earn a Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from North Carolina State University.
     In commenting on the position at Campbell, Dr. Roberson stated, “I am thrilled to be returning to my alma mater, Campbell University. Under the leadership of President Wallace, Campbell is implementing multiple strategic initiatives and positioning herself for a bright and promising future as the premier center of Christian Higher Education. I am honored to join Dr. Wallace’s leadership team and to give guidance to two critical functions-marketing and strategic planning.”
     He and his wife, Wendy, reside in Buies Creek with their daughter, Sarah Elizabeth.
