Campbell's Harmon Honored
Dr. Steve Harmon, associate professor of Christian theology at Campbell
University, was recently selected as a contributor to the book, “Christianity
and the Soul of the University: Faith as a Foundation for Intellectual
Community.”
Harmon’s was among 10 presentations out of a total of
140 chosen by the Baylor University Institute for Faith and Learning for
inclusion in the book. His contribution to the work is titled Contesting Our
Story Tradition, Narrative, and Communal Conflict in the Postmodern Christian
University. Printed by Baker Academic Press, “Christianity and the Soul of the
University” was developed from a conference held at Baylor in March 2004. It is
a compilation of scholarly reflections on the nature of faith as it relates to
the intellectual development of the Christian university.
Harmon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard
Payne University and earned his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy
degrees at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In addition, he completed
further graduate studies at the Catholic University of America in Washington
D.C., and the University of Dallas.
A seasoned scholar, Harmon has published several
articles in many national journals, including the “Journal of Early Christian
Studies,” “Perspectives in Religious Studies,” “Review and Expositor,” “Baptist
History and Heritage” and “Christian Ethics Today.” In November of 2003, Harmon
had his first book published, “Every Knee Should Bow: Biblical Rationales for
Universal Salvation in Early Christian Thought”.
Prior to coming to Campbell in 1998, Harmon served as
an adjunct professor of Christian studies at Howard Payne University and was a
teaching fellow in the Department of Theology at Southwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary. Harmon was honored with Campbell’s Dean’s Excellence in
Research Award in 2002.
