Pulitzer-nominated journalist speaks to honors students
Journalist
George Archibald, standing, recently spoke to honors students in Dr. Michael Ray
Smith's Journalists in Film and Fiction class. A 35-year veteran of the
newsroom, Archibald broke many national stories for “The Washington Times.” For
instance, he was the first reporter to connect Geraldine Ferraro, a vice
presidential candidate, to her family's real estate improprieties in Manhattan.
In the photograph from left, at bottom, are Catherine Wiggs, Sarah Franks,
Kristen Harris, Tiffany Dorrin, Archibald, Tiffany Earl, Lee Chong, Luke Custer
and Yi Wan Chan. Archibald is one of the many visiting speakers who helped
students explore the images of reporters in mass media. The class provides some
opposition views to the one-dimensional stereotypes associated with journalists.
