Congressman Robin Hayes to be Barden Lecturer at Campbell March 21
Republican
Congressman Robin Hayes, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, will be
the featured speaker at the annual Barden Forum, sponsored by Campbell
University’s Department of Government, History, and Justice. The lecture is
scheduled for Monday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m., in Hartness Lecture Hall of the
Campbell University Science building. Admission is free and open to the public.
Hayes represents North Carolina’s 8th District, which includes Mecklenburg,
Union, Anson, Richmond, Scotland, Hoke, part of Cumberland, Montgomery, Stanly,
and Cabarrus counties. He was first elected to the House in 1998 and is
presently serving his third term in office. Hayes also serves on three House
committees, including Agriculture, Transportation and Infrastructure, and Armed
Services. As a member of the House Committee on Agriculture, Hayes served as
chairman of the Livestock and Horticulture Subcommittee and was a key member of
the of the Highway and Transit and Pipelines Subcommittee and the Aviation
Subcommittee under Transportation and Infrastructure. He also served as vice
chairman of the Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee.
A native of Cabarrus County, Hayes received a Bachelor of Arts in history from
Duke University in 1967 and is the current owner and operator of Mt. Pleasant
Hosiery Mill. From 1992-1996, Hayes was a member of the North Carolina House of
Representatives, and he was the Republican nominee for governor of North
Carolina in 1996.
He has an extensive background in the private sector, working with Arctic
Southern Turbines, Mack Sales of Birmingham, Colville Environmental Services,
highway contractor Palmer Mountain Farms, and Central Motor Lines.
His voting record reflects Hayes’ intense interest in the American family,
senior citizens, education, and the military.
He and his wife, Barbara, are the parents of two children.
