Dr.
Barry A. Jones, Associate Professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at Campbell
University Divinity School, Buies Creek, has been named Associate Dean for
Academic Programs, effective July 1. Since the inception of the school in 1995,
this position has been held by Dr. Bruce P. Powers, who will be returning to the
classroom and devoting time to writing and other special projects.
“I am pleased and excited for our school that Dr. Barry Jones will become the
new associate dean. Already a leader among our faculty, Dr. Jones will bring
wisdom and vision to his new work,” says Dean Michael G. Cogdill. “He is a
respected teacher and colleague, and a great friend of students. Dr. Jones is
known for representing the highest standards of theological scholarship while
modeling the very best of Christian commitment. He will continue to be a
marvelous asset to Campbell University, the Divinity school, and to all students
who come our way for theological education.”
“Bruce Powers has helped to shape Campbell Divinity School into a wonderful
community of students, faculty, and staff working together to live out God’s
call and to prepare for ministry to the world through the church,” explains
Jones.
“As the new associate dean, my goals are to strengthen and widen our community,
to continue the pursuit of excellence in scholarship and ministry, and to model
servant leadership in the spirit of Christ,” he continues. “My life has been
shaped as a Christian and a minister by being a student and a teacher at
Campbell University. To be able to share this legacy with new students is an
opportunity and a challenge that I look forward to with great enthusiasm.”
