Woolard Named
Full Professor at Campbell
Dr.
Donna Woolard has been promoted to full professor at Campbell University.
Woolard is a professor of exercise science and director of the Physical
Education Teacher Education program at Campbell.
A native of Washington, NC, Woolard joined the faculty of Campbell University in
1994. Under her direction the Physical Education Teacher Education program at
Campbell has been cited as an example of excellence by the North Carolina
Department of Public Instruction and the National Council for Accreditation of
Teacher Education (NCTE). Woolard herself was named an “exemplary” teacher
educator by the NCATE and she received the 2003 Service Award from the North
Carolina Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation and
Dance (NCAAHPERD). Woolard was also named Teacher of the Year by the NCAAHPERD
in 2000.
The National Association for Sport and Physical Education Council for
Professional Preparation in Physical Education invited Woolard to conduct a
workshop on the physical education Praxis exams at the 2001 national convention
of the NCAAHPERD. In addition, Woolard has conducted numerous workshops on the
Praxis exam at both state and national conventions. She is a leader in
instructional technology and is an accomplished Webmaster, noted for creating
instructional interactive Web sites. For the past several years, Woolard has
served as editor, layout designer, and contributor to the Alliance newsletter,
“The NCAAHPERD News.”
A graduate of East Carolina University, Woolard earned both undergraduate and
master’s degrees in health and physical education. She went on to earn a
doctorate in physical education from Middle Tennessee State University in
Murfreesboro, TN. Prior to coming to Campbell, Woolard was an assistant
professor at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, NC. She also
served as coordinator of Physical Education Teacher Education, supervisor of
student teachers, and head volleyball coach. In addition, Woolard has served as
an assistant professor at Mars Hill College, where she was coordinator of
Physical Education Teacher Education, supervisor of students, and head softball
coach.
In 1998, Woolard received the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence from
Campbell, and she was named to “Who’s Who in American Education” in 1993. She
received the North Carolina Governor’s Recognition Award as Outstanding
Sportswoman for 1987 and was named Coach of the Year by the Chowan “News-Herald”
newspaper in 1985.
