Wakefield Promoted at Campbell Divinity School
Dr.
Andrew Wakefield has been named an associate professor by the Campbell Divinity
School. Wakefield, who teaches New Testament and Greek, has been associated with
the Divinity School since 1997.
The son of missionary parents, Wakefield grew up on the mission fields of
Southeast Asia. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in philosophy
from Wake Forest University where he was also a Carswell Scholar and graduated
summa cum laude with Phi Beta Kappa honors. He earned a Master of Divinity
degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he received the
Broadman Seminarian Award for outstanding achievement in Biblical Studies.
Wakefield also earned a doctorate in New Testament Studies from Duke University.
He has served churches in Lumberton, Selma, Laurinburg, and Durham.
In 2003 he was honored with Campbell’s Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award, and
he was a featured presenter at the prestigious Society of Biblical Literature in
Atlanta, GA, in 2002.
“Dr. Wakefield’s promotion to associate professor is an honor and recognition
that has been well-earned,” said Dr. Michael G. Cogdill, dean of the Divinity
School. “He is a superb classroom teacher who excels in presenting the messages
of the New Testament books in the best of scholarly excellence. Students greatly
appreciate his ability to make implications from the material he is teaching. He
is a tremendous asset to the Divinity School, and we are proud that this honor
came to him.”
The Campbell Divinity School, which opened in 1996 with 35 students, currently
has 206 students enrolled. The school offers the Master of Divinity and Master
of Arts in Christian education and the Doctor of Ministry degree. The Divinity
School is committed to providing Christ-centered, Bible-based, and
ministry-focused theological education for Christian ministry.
