Sampson County Resident Receives Full Scholarship
to Campbell
Carol
Ann King, of Clinton, NC, has received a four-year scholarship, the Gladys Baars
Campbell Scholarship, to Campbell University. King is the daughter of Henry and
Pattie King.
A senior at Hobbton High School, King was a member of the Future Business
Leaders of America from grades 9-12 and served as president of the organization
during her junior and senior years. She also held membership in numerous other
organizations, including the Future Farmers of America (reporter, secretary),
the Beta Club, the Science Club (vice president), and the Student Government
Association (homeroom representative).
King’s academic performance and involvement have been recognized frequently
during her high school career. She was selected to serve as Chief Marshall
during her junior year and was named a Robinson Scholar as a sophomore. Also as
a junior, King was inducted into the National Honor Society and was named to
“Who’s Who Among American High School Students.” She maintained the highest
average in her class through freshman, sophomore, and junior years and was named
“Best All-Around Freshman in the 9th grade.
King would like to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics at
Campbell and become a math teacher. She sees math as a means of combining her
passion for numbers and her desire to help others.
“I would be honored if I were granted the opportunity to learn more about math
and then teach others in order to raise awareness of the importance of math as
an element of our everyday lives,” King said. “Students have difficulty seeing
math as anything more than ‘2+2= 4.’They don’t realize the uses math has in real
life.”
In addition, she is thrilled about the Gladys Baars Campbell Scholarship and
coming to Campbell. “I cannot wait to arrive at Campbell, knowing that I will be
spending my time on a quality campus receiving a quality education,” King said.
Founded in 1887, Campbell University is North Carolina’s second largest private
institution of higher education and the second largest Baptist university in the
world. Located in Buies Creek, NC, just east of the center of the state,
Campbell combines academic excellence and Christian commitment. More information
about Campbell University is available on the Web site, www.campbell.edu.
