University
Sarah
Casey Roberts, of Clayton, NC, has received a four-year scholarship, the J.
Hunter and Mabel C. Strickland Memorial Scholarship, to Campbell University.
Roberts is the daughter of Paul and Jane Roberts.
A senior at Clayton High School, Roberts serves as homeroom representative to
the Student Government Association and secretary of the Fellowship of Christian
Athletes. She is also a member of the Clayton Youth Council and Horne Memorial
Youth Group. She has participated in all of these organizations through high
school and served as class president during her freshman year. Roberts has been
named to Who’s Who Among American High School Students and was a Wofford Scholar
and Morehead Scholar nominee. She has been consistently named to the Principal’s
List throughout her academic career. Her athletic honors include winning the
Rookie of the Year Award for cross country and outdoor track; making All
Conference teams for indoor and outdoor track and cross country; winning the
Achievement Award for outdoor track; and making the All Conference, All
Regional, All State outdoor track team.
An active member of her community, Roberts has volunteered for charitable
organizations such as House of Hope and the Smithfield Rescue Mission, as well
as participated in mission trips to Washington, D.C., Tennessee, West Virginia,
and Asheville.
“One passion that I have discovered is working with the less fortunate,” Roberts
said.” In fact, the most rewarding public service activities in which I have
participated have been the mission trips I’ve been a part of through my church.
Working in the Appalachian Mountains, my eyes have been opened to a whole
different world; a world that I did not know existed. The summers that I spent
in the mountains taught me many values about life, and I became more thankful
for all that has been given to me. Once I am enrolled in college, I plan to
continue these trips because I enjoy helping others see the world in a brighter
way.”
When she gets to Campbell, Roberts plans to major in either mathematics or
chemistry and minor in Spanish. She looks forward to using her Spanish minor to
work with Hispanic communities.
