CASTELLANOS & AIKMAN: MEDIA EXPERTS TO SPEAK AT
CAMPBELL UNIVERSITY
 Alex
Castellanos and David Aikman, two renowned media experts, will be speaking at
Campbell University on March 1 and 3 respectively. Dr. Donald Schroeder,
chairman of the lecture-symposium committee, noted that Mr. Castellanos’s topic
will be “The Mass Media in Presidential Campaigns” and Mr. Aikman’s topic will
be “Religion and the Modern Journalist.”
Mr. Castellanos, son of the former Coats physician Dr. Juan Castellanos, was an
immigrant from Cuba whose family arrived in the US in 1961 with “one suitcase
and eleven dollars.” He graduated from Coats High School and attended UNC as a
Morehead and National Merit Scholar before going to work on Ronald Reagan’s 1976
presidential campaign.
Castellanos is a partner in National Media Inc. of Alexandria Virginia, a
business that does over $125 million in advertising annually. Fortune referred
to him as a “new style media master.” He has lectured extensively from Harvard
to the US Army Communications School.
Catellanos, a Republican, handles the political end of the consulting business
for National Media and has worked in several presidential campaigns, including
media advisor for both George Bushes. He has also worked for Jesse Helms, Bob
Dole, Fred Thompson, Jeb Bush, Strom Thurmond, and many nationally known
political figures.
Mr. Aikman is an award-winning print and broadcast journalist who worked 23
years for Time magazine. A senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center,
Washington, D.C., 1998-2000, he recently authored a book about the president
entitled A Man of Faith: The Spiritual Journey of George W. Bush (2004).
Aikman has lectured at Harvard, the Council on Foreign Relations, and in a
variety of other forums. He has testified before Congress on religious
persecution in China, the subject of another of his books, Jesus in Beijing
(2003).
Aikman, as a practicing Christian, has had a long interest in the role of the
Christians in the mass media. He is founder and chairman of Gegrapha, a global
fellowship of Christian journalists.
The general public is invited to the Castellanos and Aikman presentations on the
campus of Campbell University, Buies Creek, NC. Mr. Castellanos will speak at 11
a.m. in Turner Auditorium, D. Rich Building, and at 7 p.m. in Lynch Auditorium,
School of Business, on Tuesday, March 1. Mr. Aikman will speak at 11 a.m. and 7
