Teens Take a Closer Look at “Real Beauty
Approximately two hundred Acteens came to
Campbell University on Saturday, February 5, 2005 for Acteens Day, sponsored by
Campus Women on Mission. The theme of the event was exploring the meaning of
“Real Beauty.”
The day began with worship music lead by the band, “Amazing Flying Victories.”
Eunicea Parker of Winston-Salem, and current divinity student at Campbell
University was the featured speaker. Parker came with a message about the
importance of the condition of your heart and how your heart affects everything
you do. The girls had a full day of learning about their own inner beauty.
Some Acteens shared their definition of real beauty. Rebecca Britt, 13, an
Acteen from Sandhill Baptist Church in Lumberton, NC said, “Don’t judge people
by what they look like on the outside, get to know them a little better.”
Another Acteen, Lauren Morton, 15, from North Roxboro Baptist Church said, “I
hope to leave here with a new understanding of myself and how we all should look
at one another. As Christians it is our command to share the word of God with
others.”
The rest of the day consisted of three conference sessions where the girls and
their leaders had a chance to dig deeper into the meaning of real beauty and how
to recognize it.
In the midst of all the fun, the Acteens brought an offering of $500.62 to go to
the Acteens Day Scholarship for Hispanics at Campbell. A total of 176 Acteens
and 71 leaders gathered together to enjoy fellowship, great music, and to learn
what it really means to be beautiful.
