Campbell to Hold May Graduation Exercises

Campbell University will hold May graduation
exercises Monday, May 10, at 9 a.m. on the University Mall in front
of the D. Rich Memorial Building. Dr. Edwin Graves Wilson, provost
emeritus of Wake Forest University, will deliver the commencement
address. Dr. Tony Cartledge, editor and president of the Biblical
Recorder, will speak at the Baccalaureate Service Sunday, May 9, at
10 a.m. on the University Mall.
Dr. Edwin Graves Wilson came to Wake Forest
University in 1951 as a member of the English faculty. He became
dean of the college in 1960 and provost in 1967. Wilson also served
as vice president for Special Projects from 1990-94 and senior vice
president from 1998-2002.

Tony Cartledge |
A graduate of Wake Forest College, Wilson received a
Ph.D from Harvard University in 1952. He has served as president of the
North Carolina Association of Colleges and Universities and is a former
member of the board of directors of the North Carolina School of the
Arts Foundation. Wilson is the co-author of the book, Keats, Shelley,
Byron, Hunt and Their Circles, published by the University of Nebraska
Press.
A pastor for 26 years, Dr. Tony Cartledge came to the
Biblical Recorder as editor and president in 1999. He graduated from the
University of Georgia and received a Master of Divinity with languages
from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Cartledge earned a Ph.D.
from Duke University in 1989. A prolific writer, Cartledge’s published
works include numerous articles and chapters as well as two books, 1 & 2
Samuel (Macon: Smyth & Helwys) and Vows in the Old Testament and the
Ancient Near East (Sheffield: JSOT Press).
Hooding Ceremonies
Hooding ceremonies for Campbell’s five professional
schools are also scheduled for Sunday, May 9. The schedule includes, the
Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at 1 p.m. on the University Mall;
the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business at 1 p.m. in Scott Concert Hall
of the Rogers Fine Arts Center; the School of Pharmacy at 3 p.m. on the
University Mall; the Campbell Divinity School at 3 p.m. at Memorial
Baptist Church in Buies Creek; and the School of Education at 3 p.m. in
Scott Concert Hall of the Rogers Fine Arts Center.
