Choral Society to Perform at Campbell
The Campbell University
Choral Society will present a concert on Sunday, April 18 at 4 p.m.
in Scott Concert Hall of the Taylor Bott Rogers Fine Arts Center.
Admission is free and open to the public.
The afternoon's
program will feature two works, Requiem by John Rutter and
Gospel Mass by Robert Ray. The choral society will perform
Rutter's setting for choir and a small chamber orchestra. Requiem
is performed in a mass setting and presents the hope Christians have
in death. Cathy Sutter, of Lillington, NC, a frequent oratorio
soloist in central North Carolina, will perform a solo. Gospel
Mass is the text of a Roman Catholic mass translated into
English and set in black gospel style.
"This is fun music because
Ray incorporates rock and jazz influences in this setting," said Dr.
Phillip Morrow, the choral director at Campbell. "This text is usually
associated with a reserve or classical form."
Soloists include Campbell
students Ann-Nakia Green, of Durham, NC; Andrew Lupton, of Clyde, NC;
Christina Ebel, of Vale, NC; and Campbell alumnus Julie Wills, of
Fuquay-Varina, NC.
The choral society is the music department's ensemble
devoted to the preparation of choral masterworks. Membership not only
includes undergraduate and graduate students, but also faculty and
community members.
