The Rev. James Patrick Pearce, of Hickory, NC, was recently elected to the Campbell University Board of Ministers. The Board of Ministers is an advisory and participatory group that provides insight and assistance in the fulfillment of the University’s mission to provide Christian higher education to worthy young men and women.

Currently, Pearce serves as associate pastor of First Baptist Church in Hickory, NC. A native of Dillon, SC, he attended Clemson University, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in 1964. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Houston in 1972 and received a Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC, in 1987.

Pearce is a retired United States Air Force lieutenant colonel. During his 21-year Air Force career, he was a deacon at five Southern Baptist Convention churches. He currently volunteers as the associate chaplain at Frye Regional Medical Center.

Pearce is married to the former Leslie S. Tumbleston of Walterboro, SC. They have three children—Rachel, Pamela, and Maria.

Founded in 1887, Campbell University is North Carolina’s second largest private institution of higher education and the second largest Baptist university in the world. Located in Buies Creek, NC, just east of the center of the state, Campbell combines academic excellence and Christian commitment.
