Heburn Retires After 14 Years at Campbell University
|

Bill Heburn |
Bill Heburn, of Dunn, NC, retired recently after 14
years of service to Campbell University. Heburn was a member of the
General Services Department of the Physical Plant.
His trademark pipe and baseball cap coupled with the quiet,
determined way in which he approached any task will be Heburn’s most
remembered qualities, said Physical Plant Director Jim Roberts.
“Bill has a tremendous sense of duty and a wonderful sense of
humor,” Roberts said. “He was the man who would come at night and stay all day
on Saturday. He loved helping others and was always willing to be of
assistance in every way possible.”
A native of New York, Heburn moved to Southeastern North
Carolina in 1971. Prior to joining Campbell University, he worked for Master
Exterminators in Fayetteville, NC. As a member of the General Services
Department, Heburn’s responsibilities included everything from setting up for
events such as graduation and the annual Parade of Flags ceremony to preparing
the dormitories for Campbell’s summer camps.
“He always went beyond the call of duty,” Roberts said.
“That’s the attribute that distinguishes Bill the most.”
Heburn enjoyed working at Campbell. “I enjoyed everybody and
everything,” he said. “There will be a lot of things to do in retirement, but
I will miss the work and the people at Campbell.”
Now that he is retired, Heburn will have more time to devote
to his favorite hobbies, building and restoring furniture. Heburn’s wife,
Shannon, is a reserves assistant with Carrie Rich Memorial Library at
Campbell.
